Danville robbery suspect arrested in Sacramento
DANVILLE – A Salinas man suspected of armed robbery of a Danville gas station was arrested while sleeping in his car.
At approximately 5:02 am on January 18, 2020, officers were called to the Shell Station on Camino Ramon for a report of an armed robbery. During the investigation, police learned the suspect, who was later identified as Saul Martinez, 26, of Salinas, fled in a vehicle.
Using Danville’s Automated License Plate Recognition system, officers were able to identify the license plate and owner of the vehicle.
Sacramento Police later located Martinez sleeping in his car and placed him under arrest. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for robbery, criminal threats, and an added enhancement for using a firearm in the commission of the robbery.
Police Chief Allan Shields said he was very pleased with the swift work of police in getting a dangerous criminal off the streets.
“This is another example of the police/community partnership yielding great results,” he said. “Between the excellent witness accounts, and the ALPR system, our officers were able to quickly find the suspect and make an arrest.”
