Danville: Child Airlifted After Being Hit By Vehicle
A child was struck by a vehicle while riding a bike on Lomitas Drive in Danville Sunday afternoon.
Just before 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Danville Police and San Ramon Valley Fire were notified that a child had been hit by a vehicle on Lomitas Drive in Danville.
Initial reports indicated that the child was riding a bike at the time of the accident and had lost consciousness at least one time after being struck. The child was also reportedly bleeding heavily from the nose.
Police officers arrived and found bystanders tending to the child along with an off-duty EMT.
A passerby reported to Danville San Ramon Updates that the child appeared to be wearing a helmet. The passerby also reported that the driver of the vehicle said the child “came out of nowhere.”
A helicopter landed at Vista Grande Elementary and transported the child to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland for treatment.
Road closures are in effect in the area (Contada Circle neighborhood).
Very early, unconfirmed reports also indicated that the vehicle, a Toyota sedan, was traveling about 30 miles-per-hour before impact. Reports also indicated that the driver of the vehicle is between 16 and 21 years old.
Danville PD has requested their off-duty traffic officers respond to the scene for the investigation.
