Danville is the safest city in California, report finds
DANVILLE – Safewise, an independent review website for security products, published a list of top 50 safest cities in California with Danville at the top of the list.
The report reads, “Not only is Danville the safest city in California, it also has the lowest rate of violent crime, reporting a mere 0.20 crimes of this type for every 1,000 people. That’s nearly 96% lower than the national average.”
In March, Danville Police Chief Allan Shields shared that in 2017, Danville reached a new all-time low crime rate for Part 1 crimes (Homicide, robbery, burglary, theft, etc.), with only 354 reported during the year. The announcement came on the heels of Police Chief Steve Simpkins’ departure as chief, which was preceded by his announcement that Danville had achieved an all-time low crime rate in 2016 at 365 reports.
Between 1985 and 2017, Danville’s property crime rate decreased from 27.2 per 1,000 population to 7.87 per 1,000 population.
In his annual report to the town council, Chief Shields said, “the steep reduction in crime does not occur due solely to the efforts of your Police Department, but due in larger part to the trust the public holds in the department and the cooperative effort to keep Danville safe by both staff and citizens in the Town.”
In, 2017 Danville Police also achieved a case closure rate of 41% in 526 cases.
