Dublin Man Arrested for Residential Burglary in Danville
A 20 year old Dublin man was arrested Thursday morning, following a brief foot chase in the Greenbrook neighborhood of Danville.
Police Chief Steve Simpkins said the incident began at 9:37a.m. when a resident in the vicinity of Greenbrook Dr. and Rock Island Circle called 911 after seeing an unfamiliar subject leave a neighbor’s garage.
Patrol officers arrived on scene at 9:40 a.m. and began canvassing the area on foot for the subject. An individual matching the description was seen on a nearby greenbelt and when officers approached, he fled on foot. The subject discarded items as he ran away; the items were recovered and determined to have been stolen in a residential burglary a few moments earlier from a home in the 600 block of Western Star Place.
Once the suspect fled, officers from Danville & San Ramon Police Departments and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office established a perimeter and initiated a search using K-9 Rony and Officer Tyler Nelson. K-9 Rony and Officer Nelson discovered the suspect, identified as Cristian Vargas-Ortega, 20, of Dublin, hiding in the 200 block of St Christopher Dr. K-9 Rony was deployed and detained the suspect.
Vargas-Ortega has been charged with residential burglary and resisting arrest. He was also arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant out of Marin County. He was treated for minor injuries and will be booked at the Martinez Detention Facility. Investigation of this incident will be on-going.
Chief Simpkins said he was very grateful for the resident who spotted Vargas-Ortega initially, along with the assistance of local allied police agencies.
“This was a team effort that allowed us to catch a burglar,” Simpkins said. “Policing is a partnership with our community and we appreciate the watchful eyes of our residents. We are also grateful for the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office and the San Ramon Police Department.”
Chief Simpkins himself responded to aid his officers in the search for the suspect. A CHP airship was also involved in the search.
