Fentanyl located at San Ramon freeway encampment, prompting HAZMAT response
SAN RAMON – Police arrested a 41-year-old Concord resident Thursday morning after they were dispatched to a suspicious subject and subsequently located Fentanyl in a nearby tent.
Late Thursday morning, officers were dispatched to a report of a subject looking into vehicles at Hyatt House on San Ramon Valley Blvd. During their investigation, officers located Frank Basil, a 41-year-old Concord resident, and arrested him for violations relating to possession of a controlled substance and probation violation.
According to San Ramon Police Captain Denton Carlson, Basil informed officers Fentanyl was located inside a tent near the I-680 off-ramp to Crow Canyon Road. When officers responded to the tent, they observed an open bag containing suspected Fentanyl.
Due to the potential dangers associated with Fentanyl, a hazardous materials response team from the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District was dispatched to the scene. The team removed the substance for destruction and neutralized the hazard.
Basil was ultimately cited for the violations and released from the scene with a notice to appear in court.
