Firefighters extinguish brush fire in west San Ramon
SAN RAMON – Firefighters extinguished a brush fire that threatened a west San Ramon neighborhood Sunday afternoon, prompting “minor” evacuations.
At around 3:35 pm Sunday, firefighters responded to a report of a vegetation fire near the intersection of Crow Canyon Road and Bollinger Canyon Road. The district’s call center initially received around 30 911 calls reporting the blaze.
Firefighters arrived and immediately located a large column of smoke and attempted to make access to the fire off Crow Canyon Road.
As a precaution, police say they evacuated Estancia Court while firefighters worked to protect residences on Estancia Court and Cobblestone Drive.
Resources from San Ramon Valley, Contra Costa, Alameda County, East Bay Regional Parks and California State Fire Districts responded to the incident. At least one CAL Fire aircraft dropped retardant on the blaze before diverting to a larger fire in east San Jose.
At around 4:55 pm, firefighters had stopped forward progress of the fire and several roads were reopened. No structures were burned during the blaze. Residents soon returned to their homes.
