Juveniles discharge fire extinguishers during San Ramon elementary school burglary
SAN RAMON – Two juveniles are back in the custody of their parents after they allegedly went on a messy fire extinguisher rampage and stole electronics from Quail Run Elementary School early Thursday morning.
At around 2:00 am Thursday morning, officers were dispatched to a report of an alarm activation at Quail Run Elementary, located on the 4000 block of Goldenbay Ave.
Upon arriving at the school, an officer observed two juveniles inside a building who appeared to be burglarizing the school.
According to San Ramon Police Sergeant Paul Burke, the juveniles fled on foot when contacted by officers. One juvenile was eventually placed in custody before an investigation led officers to the location of the second juvenile.
Burke said both juveniles are 14-year-old boys from San Ramon. They were arrested and released to their parents, Burke said.
The boys allegedly stole various electronic devices from the school which were later recovered by police. They also caused property damage to the school by discharging fire extinguishers inside a building. The juveniles’ messy rampage left enough airborne debris inside the building that officers initially thought there was a fire inside.
Burke said the juveniles were cooperative, once they were caught.
San Ramon Valley Unified School District spokesperson Elizabeth Graswich said the district “takes the safety of our campuses very seriously. We will be reviewing this incident to determine if further precautions are needed.”
