Road closures planned for Sunday’s Devil Mountain Run

DANVILLE – Motorists are advised that Sunday, May 6, 2018, will be the 40th anniversary of the Devil Mountain Run.  This family-friendly event features a distance for everyone including a 5K, 10K, free kids’ fun run, a Mile of Truth elite run and a dog run.  Before and after the race, there will be a Wellness Expo and other activities, as well as an array of local restaurants to visit for breakfast.

As a result of the many activities, and the influx of many additional pedestrians, morning traffic will be affected on a number of Danville streets. Police will provide traffic control along the 5K and 10K routes for the safety of the runners. Control will consist of full or partial lane closures as well as rolling closures of intersections. Roads to be affected by the closures include:

5K Route: Railroad Avenue, Hartz Avenue and Danville Boulevard.

10K Route: Railroad Avenue, San Ramon Valley Boulevard, Camino Ramon and Fostoria Way. Sycamore Valley Road will be closed at Camino Ramon for short durations between 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. to provide a safe crossing for runners. Westbound Camino Tassajara will be diverted away from Sycamore Valley Road to Diablo Road during the closure. 10K runners will also use the Iron Horse trail and traffic control will be provided at key intersections on the trail.

(Maps of the 5K and 10K routes are attached)

Closure of Railroad Avenue begins at 4:00 a.m., other closures will occur at 7:00 a.m. and the police will begin rolling closures of streets and intersections after the race begins at 8:00 a.m. All closures along the route will reopen once the runners have passed and are expected to be open by 10:00 a.m. The downtown closures for the start/finish lines will reopen at 11:00 a.m.

Motorists are asked to use caution along the race route and expect delays.
