Robbery Suspects Flee After Daytime Shootout in Danville Neighborhood
DANVILLE – Robbery suspects exchanged gunfire with a resident in a Danville neighborhood after robbing victims in a vehicle Tuesday evening.
At around 5:48 pm Tuesday, police were dispatched to a report of shots fired on Hartford Road near Rutherford Drive and Camino Amigo. A 911 caller reported they were shot at by three suspects and returned fire.
Several suspects, reportedly armed with handguns, attempted to rob four residents who had just parked their vehicle on Hartford Road. A neighbor who witnessed the robbery exchanged gunfire with the suspects before they fled in two vehicles.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Police are still investigating. A Sheriff’s Office helicopter assisted with a search for the suspects.
According to initial information, the suspects took several watches and pieces of high-end jewelry from the victims.
At around the same time, Danville Police were presenting a quarterly update to the Town Council, who still conduct meetings on “teleconference only,” not in the council chambers (despite both neighboring cities, San Ramon and Walnut Creek, already conducting council meetings in-person). During the meeting, traffic safety was the main topic.
