San Ramon Police Arrest Stolen Vehicle Suspect on Numerous Charges
SAN RAMON – Officers patrolling the parking lot of a local gym Monday night arrested a 22-year-old man an numerous charges, including vehicle theft.
According to San Ramon Police, an officer conducting a patrol of an area recently targeted by thieves observed an individual in the parking lot of 4400 block of Norris Canyon Road.
Upon contacting the individual, police say they determined he was associated with a stolen vehicle in the parking lot, adjacent to a local fitness center.
Police say the alleged driver of the vehicle, Lawrence Phipps (22) of Antioch, was placed in custody for suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and violation of probation.
Phipps was already on probation for vehicle theft, according to police. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility following his arrest.
San Ramon Police reminded the public that crime takes place in San Ramon, despite it being a safe community. They divulged that in many of the recent thefts, the victims left their property in plain view inside the vehicle.
Police say they will continue to conduct patrols to proactively combat thefts and ensure the safety of the community.
According to police records, there have been more than 35 vehicle burglaries and 6 vehicle thefts reported in San Ramon during the past month.
