Victim Carjacked at Gunpoint in San Ramon Safeway Parking Lot
San Ramon Police are seeking suspects of an armed carjacking that occurred in a San Ramon parking lot.
Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday night, officers were dispatched to a reported armed carjacking in the parking lot of Safeway on San Ramon Valley Boulevard. A witness called police, reporting that a man had just had his vehicle and cell phone taken from him at gunpoint by a hispanic male suspect.
The victim (a Concord resident) had arranged to meet the victim, whom he did not know, at the Safeway in San Ramon to purchase motorcycle parts. Police say that before any transaction took place, the suspect brandished a revolver, pointed it at the victim’s chest and demanded his money, wallet, iPhone and vehicle.
The suspect was seen fleeing in the victim’s vehicle (a white 2016 Chevrolet Malibu rental car) and were reportedly following a U-haul truck possibly driven by accomplices. Both vehicles were seen fleeing toward highway 680 via Crow Canyon Rd.
At the scene, officers located a stolen Honda Civic (from Oakland) that was believed to be the vehicle that the suspects arrived in. Police conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the suspects or the victim’s vehicle.
There were no reported injuries to the victim.
Update: A suspect in this incident has been placed under arrest. Read here.
The incident marks the second reported carjacking in a San Ramon Safeway parking lot this year. Exactly a month before, officers responded to a carjacking in a different Safeway parking lot (on Bollinger Canyon Rd). That incident resulted in an arrest when officers located the suspect driving the victim’s vehicle minutes after the incident. Read more about that story here.
