Science Experiment Prompts Evacuation, HAZMAT Investigation at Monte Vista High School
DANVILLE – Authorities evacuated a Monte Vista High School building after a science experiment reportedly didn’t go as planned.
At approximately 11:15 am Friday morning, firefighters were called to investigate a possible hazardous materials investigation at Monte Vista High School.
According to San Ramon Valley Fire Battalion Chief Dan McNamara, a teacher conducting a science experiment inside a classroom alerted authorities when the experiment yielded an unexpected outcome, noting that the experiment began to smell unexpectedly.
School officials immediately evacuated the building before HAZMAT crews entered the affected area to mitigate the hazard.
Paramedics evaluated and released 23 people at the scene who showed no symptoms, McNamara said.
