Shoplifting Suspects Chased by San Ramon Police into Oakland
Four suspects were taken into custody Friday night after they allegedly shoplifted copious amounts of baby formula from a San Ramon Safeway.
Just before 8:00 p.m. Friday, San Ramon Police were called to the Safeway on Bollinger Canyon after an employee witnessed a shoplift. The employee reported that the suspects stole baby formula from the store before getting into an altercation with employees in the parking lot of the business.
Before officers arrived, one of the suspects re-entered the store to steal more baby formula. As the suspect vehicle (a U-haul truck) was fleeing the area, a responding officer attempted a traffic stop. When the vehicle failed to yield to the red and blue lights, the officer initiated a pursuit.
The vehicle fled from officers on Interstate 680 and Highway 24 at over 100 miles per hour. A San Ramon Police K9, Danville Police K9, officers from the California Highway Patrol and a Sheriff helicopter were involved in the chase. A suspect could be seen inside the cargo area of the truck during part of the pursuit.
Toward the end of the pursuit, the vehicle went through the Caldecott tunnel before exiting the highway in Oakland. When the suspects ditched the truck and fled on foot, officers gave chase. Three suspects were taken into custody in the backyard of a residence of 37th Street in Oakland. One suspect sustained a dog bite when the Danville Police officer deployed K9 “Rony.”
An additional suspect was left behind at the Safeway. He was taken into custody for shoplifting.
At least one suspect was also wanted a for felony warrant. It does not appear a weapon was used in the incident.
Update: Suspects wanted for robbery (not armed) of baby formula from SR Safeway are in custody in Oakland. Danville PD K9 was deployed.

Good work! Get out our neighborhood and stay where you belong.
Honestly I think the cops were in the wrong, they put many lives at risk just to save somebody who was getting food for their baby. Not the biggest deal in the world
(IN THE WRONG?)
Sure…Let’s let all those f**king crooks just go back to Oakland where they belong
