Suspect Fires Gun During Downtown Danville Altercation
DANVILLE – A suspect was arrested early Sunday morning after they allegedly fired multiple shots following a physical altercation.
At around 1:00 am Sunday morning, Danville Police officers were dispatched to a report of shots fired near the bars on Hartz Avenue in Downtown Danville. Multiple callers reported that they heard gunshots and observed a physical altercation outside a bar on the east side of the street.
Several callers reported seeing a suspect, who had been involved in a physical altercation with another subject, fire gunshots into the air before a group of subjects wrestled the firearm away from them. One bar owner on the west side of the street told dispatchers that several civilians ran into their bar to seek safety.
Deputies from several regions of central Contra Costa County, including Martinez, responded to the scene.
Upon their arrival, Danville Police officers quickly located and detained the suspect who fired the gun. The suspect was later identified as a 20-year-old man from Concord.
During their investigation, it was learned that several subjects in a vehicle took the gun and fled toward I-680. Those suspects, the vehicle, and the firearm were not located.
Officers later located and interviewed a subject at a local hospital who was believed to be injured in the initial physical altercation. However, no injuries were reported from the shooting.
The suspect who fired the gun was found to have several felony warrants. 20-year-old Concord resident Jacob Filipo was transported to jail for resisting arrest, negligently discharging a firearm, concealing a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and warrants for felony conspiracy and felony burglary.
