‘Suspicious’ driver leads police on pursuit in a carjacked vehicle Monday morning
DANVILLE – A suspicious vehicle report led to a Monday morning pursuit and arrest of a 32-year-old man driving a vehicle that had reportedly been taken during a carjacking Lincoln.
According to town spokesperson Geoff Gillette, police received a report of a suspicious vehicle near Ackerman Drive and Matadera Circle Monday morning at 6:23 am.
When officers located and made contact with the driver of the black Ford Escape with paper plates, the vehicle fled onto El Cerro and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle continued to flee on northbound I-680 and westbound highway 24 before exiting at Pleasant Hill Road, Gillette said.
Lafayette Police re-initiated the pursuit after the suspect exited the freeway using the on-ramp. Gillette said officers lost sight of the vehicle before making contact with the suspected driver walking on the side of the road. Shaun Sterner, 32, was positively identified by pursuing officers and was taken into custody.
The vehicle was also located nearby, abandoned. Officers later discovered it had been reported stolen in the City of Lincoln during a carjacking.
Sterner is charged with felony evasion, probation violation, possession of stolen property, unlawful taking of an automobile and possession of a dangerous drug.
