Two arrested after crash and I-680 chase in San Ramon
SAN RAMON – Two suspects, including a pregnant female and a parolee were arrested Tuesday night after a pursuit on I-680.
At around 7 pm Tuesday evening, officers were dispatched to the Crow Canyon Place parking lot for a report of a suspicious subject attempting to open car doors. The caller said the suspect got into a vehicle, described as a silver Hyundai with paper plates, that was driven by a female.
Officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle near Camino Ramon. The vehicle fled onto southbound I-680, exited the freeway at the Bollinger Canyon Road exit then drove southbound in the northbound lanes of I-680 after striking another vehicle.
The vehicle was later located unoccupied in the #4 lane of northbound I-680 by CHP officers. Citizens reported that the occupants fled toward the Iron Horse Trail from the freeway.
Officers set up a perimeter near the Montevideo Drive area and began a search of the area with a police K9. A male suspect was located and detained after a scuffle with officers under the Pine Valley Road overpass at I-680. A bullet shell cartridge was reportedly located on the male suspect’s person.
He is identified as a 26-year-old parolee from Oakland. He was arrested for being a felon in possession of ammunition, resisting arrest and battery causing injury.
Police received several calls from citizens who saw the female suspect running through the neighborhood. Several residents showed officers video surveillance of the suspect during the search.
The female suspect was eventually located around 9 pm in the area of Estero Drive and was taken into custody. She told paramedics that she was 3 months pregnant and was transported to a local hospital.
The female, who is also from Oakland, had an active arrest warrant for a previous hit-and-run incident.
A Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office helicopter assisted during the search. As of 10 pm, K9’s from multiple agencies are conducting a sweep of the area searching for additional evidence.
