Victim airlifted after hit and run suspect strikes two bicyclists on Diablo Road in Danville
DANVILLE – Two bicyclists are hospitalized with traumatic injuries after a vehicle collided with them on Diablo Road Saturday afternoon.
At around 2 pm Saturday, paramedics and police were dispatched to a report of a vehicle collision involving bicyclists on Diablo Road near Clydesdale Drive.
Officers arrived at the scene and found citizens tending to two bicyclists with major injuries. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the suspect vehicle flee eastbound on Diablo Road. A witness also reported that a citizen was seen chasing the suspect vehicle as it fled.
Paramedics with the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District arrived at the scene and immediately dispatched an air ambulance to transport one of the victims. The other victim was transported to a local hospital by an ambulance.
Police closed Diablo Road for about an hour while they investigated the collision. Both victims were conscious when they were transported.
Although the bicyclists’ injuries were serious, police say the injuries do not appear to be life threatening. One was transported to John Muir and one to Eden Medical Center.
Police say they are actively searching for the suspect and suspect vehicle, which is described as a silver Ford Escape.
