Women leads CHP in pursuit up, then down I-680 corridor Monday evening
SAN RAMON – California Highway Patrol officers pursued a vehicle that had been stolen in San Jose Monday evening before arresting the driver has she fled on foot.
At around 10:30 pm, San Jose Police asked nearby agencies to be on the lookout for a green Ford Econoline van that had recently been stolen in their city. The owner was tracking the vehicle as it traveled on I-680 and relayed the information to CHP dispatchers.
CHP officers with the Dublin Area Office spotted the van on I-680 near Sycamore Valley Road in Danville. A pursuit was initiated with help from Contra Costa CHP officers.
The vehicle continued to flee on northbound I-680 into the Concord area, where it exited on the Treat Blvd off-ramp before getting back onto I-680 in the southbound direction.
A CHP officer successfully deployed a spike strip in an attempt to stop the van. After the vehicle became disabled on I-680 south of Alcosta Blvd, the driver fled on foot. She was taken into custody after falling into nearby landscaping on the freeway shoulder.
CHP Dublin Area Public Information Officer Derek Reed said the suspect, a 21-year-old female from Santa Clara was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility. She is being held on evading, stolen vehicle and stolen property charges.
